The Rise of Video Content on LinkedIn

LinkedIn has been making strides in enhancing user experience on its platform, and the latest development is the introduction of in-feed carousels of video clips. If you haven’t noticed them yet, you will soon, as LinkedIn is pushing video content to the forefront of its platform.

These new video carousels on LinkedIn provide users with a side-scrolling display of video clips that are personalized based on their in-app activity and profile details. By tapping on a video clip, users are taken to a full-screen video feed in vertical format, similar to TikTok’s layout.

This move by LinkedIn is aimed at promoting its growing library of user-generated video content and attracting a younger audience who prefer video updates over traditional text-based content.

Last month, LinkedIn reported a significant increase in the amount of video content being uploaded to the platform, with video being the fastest-growing content type. With a 34% year-over-year increase in video uploads, it’s clear that video engagement is on the rise on LinkedIn.

While short-form, TikTok-style videos may not be the ideal format for professionals seeking meaningful engagement, LinkedIn could explore the idea of a dedicated video feed that prioritizes live-streams for showcasing live events and industry updates.

Although carousels of video clips in-feed may not drive a significant increase in video engagement, it’s a step in the right direction for LinkedIn to capitalize on the growing trend of video content on social media platforms.

It will be interesting to see how LinkedIn’s emphasis on video content evolves and whether it resonates with its user base in the long run.
