In a move to propel the advancement of the mobile Internet of things (IoT), China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has revealed an ambitious plan that aims to elevate the sector’s supply, innovation capabilities, and industrial value.

By the year 2027, China has set its sights on enhancing its mobile IoT ecosystem, with projections indicating that the number of mobile IoT terminal connections will surpass the 3.6 billion mark.

The nation has laid out plans to support the formation of more than 5 mobile IoT industrial clusters and establish over 10 mobile IoT industry demonstration bases by the target year of 2027.

The comprehensive plan entails four crucial tasks: strengthening the foundational IoT network, boosting industrial innovation capacity, enhancing the integrated application of smart technologies, and cultivating a conducive development environment.

China is gearing up to integrate mobile IoT across various sectors including intelligent connected vehicles, healthcare, and smart homes, as highlighted in the plan.

Specifically focusing on intelligent connected vehicles, the plan mentions driving the implementation of mobile IoT in areas such as driving monitoring and autonomous driving, to deliver functions like information exchange and sharing, complex environment perception, and intelligent decision-making.

The ministry is committed to expediting the fusion of mobile IoT with key industries to bolster their digital transformation and drive new industrialization forward.

As of the end of July this year, the tally of mobile IoT connections in China approached 2.55 billion, constituting 59% of China’s total mobile terminal connections, as per official data.
