The Future of Transportation: My Experience with Waymo Self-Driving Cars
By Marlene Veltre
Imagine riding in a car where the driver’s seat is empty, yet the wheels turn smoothly as if controlled by an invisible force. This was my experience with Waymo’s self-driving cars in Los Angeles. It was a journey into the future of transportation.
The ease, comfort, and luxury of the ride were unparalleled. Ordering a Waymo car through the app was a breeze, and the vehicle arrived within minutes. The interior boasted class and comfort, courtesy of Jaguar, while the exterior was adorned with high-tech sensors.
What struck me the most was the attention to detail. From being able to program personalized music playlists to having direct access to customer support from within the car, Waymo has thought of everything. The responsive customer service, a rare find these days, was a breath of fresh air.
As with any new technology, there were minor hiccups. Our drop-off point was slightly off due to the car’s limitations in navigating certain areas. However, the peaceful ride more than made up for it. The option to pullover and find an alternate location seamlessly was impressive.
The highlight of the ride was observing the autonomy of the car as it navigated the streets of Los Angeles. The sight of the empty driver’s seat and the wheel turning on its own felt both eerie and exciting, like being part of a live sci-fi movie.
Overall, the experience was positive, and the price point for a seven-minute ride in LA was reasonable. Waymo’s self-driving technology is paving the way for a new era of transportation.
