The New Way Snapchat is Empowering Teen Users
Amid ongoing discussions about age restrictions on social media, Snapchat is making waves with a new feature that will allow teens aged 16 and 17 to share their posts with a wider audience on the app.
While not exactly public posting, this new process will give older teens the opportunity to showcase their creativity in a safer and more controlled manner.
Snapchat already has measures in place to protect young users, including restrictions on public posting. With this new update, teens can now share their content on a publicly viewable content page within their profile.
According to Snap, “Informed by feedback from our community, older teens will be able to post content to a new publicly viewable content page within their profile built with thoughtful protections in place.”
This means that teen users can now post public Stories and videos to Spotlight with attribution to their publicly viewable content page, allowing them to showcase their favorite posts.
However, the content will only be visible to a limited audience of mutual and expanded connections, with additional controls available for users to determine who can view their posts.
While the new feature offers more exposure and connection opportunities for older teens, Snap will need to proceed cautiously. Recent legal actions against the app highlight the importance of safeguarding younger users from potential risks.
Despite potential challenges, the expanded sharing options could enhance the user experience for older teens, making Snapchat an even more integral part of their social lives.
With careful monitoring and control measures in place, Snap appears to be on the right track in expanding this feature. It’s a delicate balance, but one that could offer significant benefits for teen users.
