Revolutionizing Eye Health: Siloton Secures Funding for Game-Changing OCT Chip Technology
Imagine a world where individuals can monitor and manage retinal diseases from the comfort of their own home, reducing the need for frequent hospital visits and alleviating strain on the healthcare system. Thanks to Bristol-based health tech start-up Siloton, this vision is one step closer to reality.
Siloton has recently secured £860,000 in funding to further develop its groundbreaking Akepa optical coherence tomography (OCT) chip technology. This cutting-edge technology could play a crucial role in combating age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of sight loss in the UK.
The goal? To capture the world’s first chip-based OCT image of a living eye in a commercial setting by the end of the year and release a research version of the device in 2025.
The compact and affordable nature of Siloton’s chip technology could potentially save the NHS over £1 billion annually. By enabling patients to monitor conditions such as AMD and diabetic macular oedema at home, this technology has the potential to revolutionize the way retinal diseases are diagnosed and managed.
Dr. Alasdair Price, CEO of Siloton, expressed his excitement about the latest funding round, stating, “Siloton has brought together a uniquely qualified team that is able to drive forward technology development at an unprecedented pace. This new support will help us take the next step towards commercialization by shifting gear from R&D to product development.”
With the support of investors like Evenlode Impact Investments, South East Angels, and the Francis Crick Institute, Siloton is poised to make a significant impact in the field of eye health. By compressing complex imaging technology onto a single chip, Siloton is paving the way for more accessible and affordable OCT systems.
As Dr. Price aptly puts it, “We are on the cusp of a significant milestone with our technology and look forward to sharing this in the not-too-distant future.”
Stay tuned as Siloton continues to push the boundaries of innovation and lead the way in transforming eye health for millions of individuals worldwide.
