* What is a digital nomad?
A digital nomad is someone who can live and work from anywhere because they use Internet technology to do their job. There are various degrees of digital nomadism, depending on how nomadic you want to be. Some nomads live and work on the move, changing locations often without a fixed address, while others keep a home base and travel part-time.
* Who can be a digital nomad?
Anyone who doesn’t have to commute to a physical workplace each day can be a digital nomad. If your job can be done remotely, or you earn a monthly pension or online income stream, you can be nomadic. Remote employees, online freelancers, online business owners, influencers, investors, and Internet entrepreneurs are a few examples of the types of people who commonly become digital nomads.
* Are all digital nomads young people with digital jobs?
Although the stereotypical digital nomad might be portrayed as a young tech worker with a backpack, research shows that people of all ages, races, genders, and nationalities have embraced the digital nomad lifestyle. In 2021, one study found that – out of 15.5 Million U.S. Citizens who reported being nomadic – 44% were Millennials, followed by 23% Gen X, 21% Gen Z, and 12% Baby Boomers. However, digital nomads come from every country.
* What type of jobs do digital nomads have?
Some of the most common industries where you’ll find digital nomads include information technology, creative and design, education and training, coaching and consulting, research, sales, marketing, public relations, accounting and finance, and many more. Some digital
nomads are self-employed, while others have remote jobs. The one thing that digital nomads have in common is that they can do their jobs from anywhere or earn an online income using technology and the Internet. The rest is up to you!
* What are the main things I need to become a digital nomad?
To become a digital nomad, you need the desire to go nomadic, a source of online income, and the digital tools you need to do your job and communicate globally.
* Where do digital nomads live? Can I still be a digital nomad if I can’t afford to live in an exotic location?
You don’t have to leave your home country (or your hometown) to become a digital nomad. A reported 52% of digital nomads plan on traveling domestically rather than going abroad. Most digital nomads like to live anywhere with a fast Internet connection. Other features digital nomads consider in choosing a destination include community, cost of living, location and time zone, quality of life, seasonality, safety, and visa requirements.
* What do digital nomads do about healthcare and insurance?
There are many international travel and health insurance providers catering to digital nomads. Some digital nomads get international healthcare plans, while others keep their home country coverage and get an international plan for emergencies.
