Antivirus vendor Kaspersky has officially started withdrawing its services in the U.S., transitioning existing users to UltraAV, effective September 19, 2024, ahead of its complete exit at the end of the month.
“Kaspersky antivirus customers received a software update to transition to UltraAV,” the company announced on September 21.
The Russian company, banned from selling its software in the U.S. due to national security concerns, collaborated with UltraAV to ensure continued security and privacy standards post-switch.
However, some users were surprised as Kaspersky’s software was automatically replaced by UltraAV without prior notice, leading to discussions on forums and Reddit.
UltraAV confirmed that users had been informed via email about the transition process starting September 5, but some users reported not receiving explicit details about the automatic software switch.
“I was using Kaspersky and had no idea about the switch to another antivirus in September,” one user shared on Reddit.
UltraAV, a U.S. company under the Pango Group offering various VPN apps, boasts a large user base across its brands.
