Instagram’s New Profile Cards: A Creative Way to Showcase Your IG Presence

Instagram is always evolving and testing new features to enhance user experience. One of the latest additions being tested is the new profile cards for selected creators. These profile cards offer a unique way to highlight your profile and showcase your content in a creative manner.

Goldie Chan, a prominent social media personality, shared an example of these updated profile cards on Instagram. The digital profile cards are flippable, featuring a QR code for quick connection on one side, and a profile overview and summary on the other.

The profile overview includes your image, bio, profile category, and business links. It serves as a convenient summary of your Instagram presence and provides an easy way for more people to connect with you on the platform.

While Instagram has had QR codes for profiles since 2018, their adoption has been relatively low. The platform has made changes to the format and placement of QR codes over time, which may have contributed to this lack of awareness. However, Instagram seems to be making a renewed push on QR codes now, with the addition of QR codes for Broadcast Channels earlier this year.

With Instagram’s renewed focus on QR codes, will we see more users utilizing them to access profiles and content? While it may not be a game changer, it does offer another avenue for creators to showcase their Instagram presence and reach a wider audience.

Perhaps Instagram could consider providing physical copies of these profile cards for creators to distribute, similar to what they did with Threads profile cards on the platform’s first anniversary. However, the cost implications of such a move may be a limiting factor.

For now, creators can access their Instagram QR code by tapping on the “Share profile” option on their profile. Keep in mind that the new profile cards are currently in limited testing, so not all users may have access to this feature yet.
