Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, recently shared an important note regarding Reels on the platform. According to Mosseri, including your own brand logo in your Reels will not affect their reach. In fact, Mosseri explicitly stated that using your own logo is perfectly fine and won’t result in any penalties.
It’s worth noting that back in 2021, Instagram implemented a discovery penalty for Reels that included the TikTok logo, discouraging users from reposting content between the two apps. The advice given at the time was to avoid posting content that appeared to be recycled from other apps.
With the introduction of YouTube Shorts, a similar short-form content platform, it seems including logos from other apps may also be restricted on Instagram.
While it may seem restrictive, Meta’s goal is to promote original content and discourage reposting from competitors. So, if you want to reach a broader audience, avoid reposting TikToks with the TikTok logo, but feel free to incorporate your own branding in your Reels.
Ultimately, this clarification is important for Reels creators to understand the guidelines for maintaining reach and engagement on Instagram.
