The Lowdown on Using Your Brand Logo in Instagram Reels
Are you a creator on Instagram who’s been wondering about the impact of including your own brand’s logo in your Reels? Well, we’ve got some clarification straight from Instagram chief Adam Mosseri himself.
In a recent clip, Mosseri made it clear that adding your own logo to your Reels will not affect their reach on the platform. According to Mosseri, “If you watermark a Reel with your own logo, that’s actually good to go. What we try to do is not recommend Reels with logos from other apps, but if it’s your own logo, don’t worry about it.”
This statement comes after Instagram implemented a discovery penalty in 2021 for Reels that included the TikTok logo, discouraging users from reposting content between the two apps. While Re-posting TikToks as Reels with a watermark will still be shown to your followers, their reach beyond that is limited, not appearing in Explore or recommendations.
Since YouTube introduced Shorts, their own short-form content feature, it seems that including logos from other apps would also fall under Instagram’s restriction. However, incorporating your own brand logo is perfectly acceptable and won’t result in any reach penalties.
It might seem a bit strict for Meta to limit the reach of reposts from competitors, but their goal is to promote original content across their apps’ discovery elements. So, the key takeaway here is to avoid reposting TikToks with the TikTok logo if you’re aiming for a broader audience. But if you want to showcase your own branding in your Reels, go right ahead.
For Reels creators, this is an important clarification to keep in mind as you create content on Instagram. So, feel free to add your own logo and make your Reels uniquely yours!
