Eutelsat Group has recently launched 20 satellites into low Earth orbit (LEO), enhancing the OneWeb constellation.
The satellites were sent into space aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 at 10:13 pm PT on October 19 from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. They were deployed in 10 batches over 20 minutes, and signal acquisition was confirmed on all 20 satellites. These satellites were crafted by Airbus U.S. Space & Defense in Merritt Island, Florida.
This significant launch comes a year after the merger between Eutelsat and OneWeb, creating the world’s only GEO-LEO operator. Eutelsat Group is now uniquely positioned to provide customers with both GEO high-throughput capacity and low-latency, high-speed global connectivity through LEO satellites. The demand for multi-orbit services has surged, leading Eutelsat to collaborate with industry leaders like Intelsat, Inmarsat Maritime, and Hughes to offer cutting-edge connectivity services globally across various sectors.
Eva Berneke, CEO of Eutelsat Group, expressed her excitement: “We are thrilled to witness the successful launch and deployment of new OneWeb satellites. These satellites will enhance our network services, improving overall performance for our customers. As we mark the anniversary of the merger with Eutelsat and OneWeb, we are excited about the growing demand for our multi-orbit services, and remain dedicated to delivering value for our customers and shareholders. I want to extend my thanks and congratulations to the teams at Eutelsat Group and SpaceX for their hard work in making this launch possible.”
