What was your path to DeepMind?
Richard’s fascination with AI began with multiplayer video games, leading him to pursue a degree in computer science. After embarking on a PhD, he applied for an internship at DeepMind in 2016, eventually securing a full-time role in the company.
Can you describe the internship interview process?
The interview process at DeepMind involves technical and team interviews. Richard emphasizes the importance of preparation, revisiting basic concepts in mathematics and computer science, and researching the team you’re applying to.
What was it like when you joined full-time?
Transitioning to full-time at DeepMind was both exciting and challenging for Richard, with numerous projects and brilliant colleagues to interact with. Finding focus amidst the abundance of opportunities was a key learning experience for him.
Why did you get involved with the internship programme as a full-time employee?
Richard’s positive internship experience motivated him to support future interns, leading him to coordinate his team’s internship programme and engage in activities to enhance the overall internship experience at DeepMind.
What type of work do interns do?
Interns at DeepMind collaborate on a wide range of projects, from developing new multi-agent environments to studying human-agent interaction and applying evolutionary game theory to online learning.
