Azure VMs: Choosing the Right Memory Configuration for Your Workloads

When it comes to running workloads in the cloud, choosing the right configuration for your virtual machines (VMs) is crucial. Microsoft Azure offers a range of VM types to meet different needs, with varying amounts of RAM and vCPUs to suit different workloads. Let’s take a closer look at the options available for memory configurations in Azure VMs.

If you don’t need as much RAM, you can opt for the Dplsv6 and Dpldsv6 VMs. These VMs offer the same number of vCPUs but come with up to 192GB of RAM. They are ideal for smaller workloads, such as the components of a microservice architecture.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are the Epsv6 and Epdsv6 VMs which can be configured with up to 672GB of RAM and 96 vCPUs. These VMs are designed for applications that require a large amount of in-memory data, making them suitable for services like Redis. With these three memory models, Azure provides a versatile range of options to cater to various cloud-native applications, allowing you to choose the right VMs for different parts of your application.

In addition to the memory options, Azure offers a variety of storage choices, including support for all remote storage options. If you select a Dpdsv6, Dpldsv6, or Epdsv6 VM, it will come equipped with local NVMe storage (the “d” denotes disk), requiring an NVMe-ready operating system. Storage capacity varies based on the number of vCPUs, starting at 110GB for a VM with 2 vCPUs.

With Azure’s diverse range of VM configurations and storage options, you can easily tailor your cloud infrastructure to meet the specific requirements of your workloads. Whether you need a smaller VM with less RAM or a high-performance VM with ample memory capacity, Azure has the right solution for you.
