When the iPhone 15 launched, Apple made repairability a key focus. iFixit, the mobile device repair specialists, later revealed that repairability was somewhat limited due to Apple’s DRM. However, with the latest iPhone, the iPhone 16, it seems that Apple has addressed these issues.

The iPhone 16 introduces a new method for removing the battery. Previous models, including the iPhone 15, used glue that made battery removal challenging. The iPhone 16 features a special adhesive that can be loosened by applying a low-voltage charge, such as a 9V battery, making the removal process significantly easier and quicker. This adhesive is found on both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models.

In addition to all the Apple Intelligence features and the anticipation of new ones to be announced at the upcoming event on September 9,

A new Repair Assistant is included with iOS 18. This feature is available to both repair professionals and regular users, allowing them to configure both new and used parts. Apple announced this feature in April, highlighting its focus on user privacy, security, and environmental sustainability.

Apple ensures that used or third-party parts offer the same functionality and security as original parts. The introduction of on-board diagnostics will provide customers with information about malfunctioning parts, eliminating the need for an additional device to run diagnostic tests.

Furthermore, Apple has made it easier to replace the Face ID sensor, a task that was previously exclusive to Apple. Now, individuals can replace the TrueDepth Camera on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, with the LiDAR scanner also being replaceable according to Engadget.

Apple’s efforts not only include providing users with tools to diagnose their own phone issues but also expanding support for non-Apple parts. While iFixIt has yet to release the official repairability score for the iPhone 16, it is expected to be a significant improvement from previous models.
