The Eclipse Foundation Launches Open Regulatory Compliance Working Group
In a move to address the ever-evolving global regulations that aim to improve software quality and security, the Eclipse Foundation has announced the launch of the Open Regulatory Compliance Working Group (ORC WG). This initiative comes on the heels of Eclipse’s collaboration with the Apache Software Foundation and other open source organizations back in April.
The ORC WG aims to provide support to participants across the open source community, including developers, enterprises, industries, and open source foundations, in navigating and adhering to the changing regulatory frameworks. With influential members such as the Python Software Foundation and the Rust Foundation, the working group plans to assist companies in understanding and complying with European Union regulatory requirements, such as the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and EU AI and data sovereignty measures.
The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) sets out cybersecurity requirements for hardware and software products with digital elements intended for the EU market. The ORC WG’s future plans involve engaging with regulatory bodies and governments to help them grasp the unique open source development model.
Overall, the formation of the ORC WG signifies the Eclipse Foundation’s commitment to fostering compliance with global regulations and enhancing software quality and security within the open source community. With a focus on collaboration and education, the working group is poised to make a significant impact in navigating the complex landscape of regulatory compliance in the tech industry.
