Google has introduced exciting new features to Chrome that empower users with enhanced control over their data security and privacy while browsing the web, offering protection against online threats.

“The latest version of Chrome brings advanced Safety Check functionalities, enables easier opt-out of unwanted website notifications, and allows selective one-time permissions for sites,” announced the tech giant.

The upgraded Safety Check in Chrome now runs in the background, notifying users of its activities such as revoking permissions from unused websites and highlighting potentially unwelcome notifications.

Moreover, Safety Check proactively alerts users about security issues that require attention, automatically removing notification permissions from sites flagged by Google Safe Browsing for suspicious activity.

“With Safety Check on desktop, users will be promptly notified about any Chrome extensions that could compromise their security, guiding them to the extensions page with quick controls to remove potential risks,” explained Andrew Kamau, Chrome’s product manager.

In addition to enabling Google Safe Browsing protections, Safety Check also warns users if any usernames or passwords saved in Google’s Password Manager were part of a data breach.

Other notable updates include the ability to unsubscribe from unwanted website notifications directly from the notifications drawer on Pixel and Android devices, as well as granting one-time permissions for Chrome on Android and desktop.

“Now, users can selectively grant permissions—such as camera or microphone access—to a site for one-time use, enhancing online privacy management. Chrome automatically revokes these permissions once the user leaves the site, requiring explicit reauthorization for future access,” Kamau added.
