Intel (INTC) and Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, have just announced a groundbreaking partnership that is set to revolutionize the world of AI technology. In a move that signifies a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar investment, the two tech giants are coming together to develop custom chip designs that will power a wide range of workloads and accelerate the performance of AI applications.
This collaboration will see Intel creating an AI fabric chip for AWS on Intel 18A, as well as a custom Xeon 6 chip on Intel 3. These cutting-edge designs will build upon the existing partnership between the two companies, in which Intel already produces Xeon Scalable processors for AWS.
Pat Gelsinger, CEO at Intel, expressed his excitement about this expanded collaboration, stating, “This expansion of our longtime relationship with AWS reflects the strength of our process technology and delivers differentiated solutions for customer workloads.” He believes that the joint efforts of Intel and AWS will drive innovation and support the growth of both businesses, as well as contribute to a sustainable domestic AI supply chain.
Meanwhile, Matt Garman, CEO at AWS, emphasized the commitment to delivering powerful and innovative cloud infrastructure to customers. He highlighted the long-standing history of collaboration between AWS and Intel, dating back to 2006, and the ongoing efforts to empower customers with new AI capabilities.
Not only does this partnership showcase a dedication to technological advancement, but it also highlights the commitment of both companies to their respective communities. Intel remains committed to building leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing in the New Albany area, while AWS plans to invest significantly in expanding its data center operations in Central Ohio.
With over 18 years of collaboration, Intel and AWS have a proven track record of helping organizations of all sizes harness the power of cloud technology. The future looks bright, as both companies explore further designs based on Intel’s latest technology and process nodes, paving the way for even more breakthroughs in the world of AI.
