The competition in the social media space is heating up, and Meta’s Threads app seems to be making significant progress. While Meta has not officially disclosed the active user count for Threads, the total download numbers indicate a positive trend.

According to the latest chart by app analytics provider AppFigures, Threads climbed to the 6th position overall and secured the second spot in the iOS download charts in August, amassing 28 million cumulative downloads for the month.

From being 8th in the ranking in January, Threads has shown consistent growth, now sitting at the 6th spot in total cumulative downloads. This growth trajectory indicates that Meta’s offering is gaining popularity and capturing more audience share in the micro-blogging space, surpassing its main competitor, X.

While X is currently ranked 43rd on the total download chart for iOS in the U.S. and 56th on Android, it’s important to note that the figures are based on total downloads. In contrast, Threads is a new player in the game, showcasing potential for significant growth.

Despite the dominance of Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, Threads is steadily gaining traction and emerging as a formidable rival to existing platforms. With an upward trend in download numbers, Threads could potentially exceed 300 million active users by the year’s end.

While X continues to face challenges such as user decline in Europe and bans in certain regions, Threads’ upward trajectory suggests a promising future as a contender in the social media landscape. It may still have a long way to go to match X’s user base, but the trends indicate that Threads is on the path to becoming a significant player in the industry.
